CD Review: Social Distortion – Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes

27 Feb

Social Distortion Album ReviewLifemusicmedia.com have just published our review of Social Distortion’s latest album, ‘Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes’. The band’s first studio album in seven years, it’s a retro-rockin’ good time of a CD. Read the excerpt of the review below and CLICK HERE or on the image of the album cover to read the entire review over at Lifemusicmedia.com:

“…Perhaps ‘Hard Times…’ carries a more unique sonic character because it marked the first time Mike Ness took the reigns as producer. Formerly ‘just’ the singer, guitarist and primary songwriter, the frontman says he wonders why he didn’t do it years ago. However, it has clearly allowed his vision to come into a fully realised form…”

Thanks for coming! 100,000 Image Hits on Flickr

22 Feb

Wow! Over night our Flickr page enjoyed its 100,000th hit. Online for a year, our page contains around 1500 images now thanks in part to our weekly texture images and irregular car show and concert uploads.

The page contains more than that though, with examples of our more serious photographic works from feature car shoots and other more artistic endeavours. You can check it all out by CLICKING HERE or clicking on the image below.

A huge thanks to all of you who’ve been to our Flickr page so far and a pre-thank you for all of you who visit it at some point in the future. While there’s really no incredible gains for us from having plenty of hits, it sure does make us feel nice!

Feature Car: RAT065 Valiant Ute for Aussie Brutes Magazine

11 Feb

Be sure to check issue 29 of Aussie Brutes magazine for our photoshoot and feature story on Kyle Smith’s white Valiant ute, RAT065. A cool retro V8-powered machine, Kyle’s ute was shot in the workshop of Evolution Motorsports in Brookvale NSW, Australia.

We lit the ute with three Canon Speedlite flashes and merged the background in separately, having lit it separately with the same flashes.

If you’d like to buy a print of this vehicle, send us an email! Additionally, if you’d like to give your pride and joy a professional photoshoot like this, Hosking Industries offer package deals in the greater Sydney and Newcastle areas at reasonable rates.

CD Review: Alexisonfire “Aussie Tour 7in” for Lifemusicmedia.com

09 Feb

Lifemusicmedia.com have just published my review of the recently-released Alexisonfire two-song single ‘Aussie Tour 7in’. Released as part of their Australian tour on actual 7in vinyl, the tracks are now available on iTunes. Check out the excerpt below, read the entire review and be sure to support Alexisonfire by buying the tracks.

“…A pretty faithful rendition of Midnight Oil’s “Dead Heart” rolls out of the speakers, immediately reminding us all that Peter Garrett would be far better off quitting the puppetry of his cabinet position and going back to music full time. The messages spoken through the lyrics are still completely and sadly relevant today. While I think Alexisonfire play it a bit too close to the original, it’s nice that they should have chosen to play the track live on their tour…”

Photo Gallery: Pinky’s Carpark Showdown Round 1

01 Feb

We attend a lot of car shows. Most of the time we’re there to cover the event for one of Australia’s many excellent performance car magazines. Over the weekend we got out to two events, including the Lady Luck festival in Katoomba and Pinky’s Carpark Showdown Round 1 in Mount Pritchard, NSW Australia.

On this occasion we were out looking for potential feature cars and as a result, the coverage we captured on the day won’t see the light of day in print. That’s unfortunate for us and good news for you, because it means you get to see the photos straight away!

Click on the thumbnails or THIS LINK to see a photo gallery of almost 100 images from the show!

It’s Our Birthday! Hosking Industries Turns 1

01 Feb

Today marks the first birthday of Hosking Industries. Founded on February 1, 2010 the company was started to house the many freelance activities of its creator Ben Hosking.

Having spent the previous seven years working full time for Sydney magazine publisher Express Publications and having recently left the company to work on his own; Ben chose the company format to allow him the potential to expand over the following years into any shape he wished – hence the relatively ambiguous company name. So far his activities have spanned the realms of performance automotive publishing, music journalism, graphic and web design, photographic and printing services and even the odd guitar lesson.

Our first 12 months have positively flown by in a whirlwind of success we couldn’t have dreamed and our blog has done exceptionally well. So thank you to all who’ve stopped by to check us out, download some free texture images or keep up to date with what we’ve been doing. You can bet we’ll have plenty more for you over the course of the next 12 months!

2011 will see dozens more feature cars photographed and written by Hosking Industries as well as other photographic excursions like portraiture and weddings, not to mention private car shoots. We’ll have another year’s worth of free texture images and we’ll also be endeavouring to continue our relatively short lived news stories on the automotive and music worlds – and anything else that takes our fancy.

So cheers and thanks for your support so far. We look forward to bringing you plenty more in 2011!

Ben Hosking
