Feature Car: Chris Milburn’s LJ Holden Torana Sedan

25 Jul

A selection of six images from a photo shoot and feature story Hosking Industries did on Chris Milburn’s sweet LJ Holden Torana sedan for Xtreme Holdens magazine in Australia. The feature appears in the latest issue of the magazine, number 38, on sale now.

As you can see from the images, Chris’ LJ runs a nice Holden six cylinder engine with triples and sounds angry thanks to an aggressive cam profile. The entire car has been rebuilt from the ground up and you can read all about it in Xtreme Holdens.

You can download desktop wallpapers of each of the images we’ve uploaded by CLICKING HERE or on each of the images below. Strobist information is available on each image’s caption for anyone interested.

Wicked… Fridays: Random FREE High-Res Textures Day!

22 Jul

Thanks to a hacker, we were unable to bring you your weekly dose of totally FREE high-resolution texture images on Wednesday, but here we are bringing you a set of textures on Friday. So, we’re a couple days late, but we’ve got some fresh ones for you this week, theme-free in glorious HD and ready to be used in your next design project.

It’s a bit of a hodge podge this week, but we really just wanted to remain consistent and bring you some stuff you could potentially make good use of in your design or photographic projects and we think you’ll find something of interest here – even if it’s just to make yourself a shiny new desktop wallpaper or three.

As always, Hosking Industries high-resolution texture images are FREE for personal and commercial use. However, you may not resell, repackage or redistribute these textures or generally pass them off as your own for monetary gain etc. Use them in your design projects, but don’t use them for commercial gain.

Feature Car: Brian Mortenson’s EH Holden Drag Ute

22 Jul

A selection of five images from a photo shoot recently published in Xtreme Holdens magazine in Australia of Brian Mortenson’s incredible home-built EH Holden utility. Brian built the car himself in a standard double-width garage at home over a five year period, but his history with the car dates way back to the 1980s.

You can read the entire story in the latest issue (issue 38) of Xtreme Holdens magazine, published by Express Publications, on sale now. Hosking Industries wrote the story as well as took the photos, some of which you can see here today.

Feature Car: Ray Tyler’s LJ Torana Coupe

16 Jul

A selection of five images from a photo shoot we did on Ray Tyler’s 1972 Holden LJ Torana coupe that has been built as a circuit racer. It appeared in issue 5 of Holden Horsepower magazine in July 2011.

Powered by a hot six-cylinder Holden engine, the car boasts a full roll cage, race seats and plenty of camber. The car had not been raced or dyno tested at the time of publication, but the AVGAS-fed beast was due to hit the track soon. I remember it being quite an angry, cammy and temperamental machine on the day of the shoot.

All shots were lit with Canon Speedlite flashes and there is strobist information on the individual shots for anyone interested.

Feature Car: John Stevens’ SBC 1932 Ford Roadster

15 Jul

A selection of five images from our recent photo shoot on John Stevens’ 1932 Ford roadster for Heavy Duty Hotrods magazine in Australia. Only recently completed, we first saw the blue ’32 on display at the 2011 Tug in the Park event at Stanwell Park on NSW’s South Coast. It boasts a warm SBC crate engine from Edelbrock and a flawless paint finish on both the body and chassis.

Shot in his own garage, we used Canon Speedlite flashes to light the car and specific strobist information is included on each image for anyone interested.

Wicked Wednesdays: FREE High-Resolution Water Textures

13 Jul

We’ve got something a little different for you this week: high-resolution texture images of water surfaces. I shot these last year on a nice trip to Parramatta Lake in Sydney, NSW Australia. They’re all taken from similar angles, but they should vary enough in surface texture for you to get some good use out of them in different projects.

As always, Hosking Industries high-resolution texture images are FREE for personal and commercial use. However, you may not resell, repackage or redistribute these textures or generally pass them off as your own for monetary gain etc. Use them in your design projects, but don’t use them for commercial gain.

Live Review: Helmet @ Manning Bar – Images and Words

01 Jul

Ask anyone who knows me well and they’ll probably be able to tell you that Helmet is my all-time favourite band. Page Hamilton has been a huge influence on me musically. We even share the same haircut!

I got the chance to photograph Helmet’s live show at the Manning Bar in Sydney on June 24, 2011 as well as review the gig for theAUreview.com. I naturally jumped at the chance, given that would mean I got to see the show from right up the front. Any closer and I would have been groping him.

They were supported by old 1990s group Pangaea. I wasn’t even aware they were still around or had regrouped. Certainly, their discography seems to indicate nothing since around 1997. Correct me if I’m wrong.

You can read the review BY CLICKING HERE. It’s a relatively long review as far as online live reviews go, but I like to add some historical context and background. So kill me.
