We’re Accredited: Ben Hosking accepted as member of the AIPP

27 Sep

Visit the AIPP WebsiteIt is with great pride and Hosking Industries announces the news that Ben Hosking has been accepted as an Accredited Professional Photographer by the AIPP (Australian Institute of Professional Photographers). The process included submission of a number of works for judging by a panel of his peers and will see Ben having to undertake regular skills improvement and attend seminars each year to maintain his membership (known as the continuing professional development program CPD). This ensures the skills base and professionalism of AIPP members continues to grow.

Established in 1963, the AIPP follows two main objectives: to promote the profession of photography and enhance the skill and knowledge of professional photographers. In their own words, “We are proud to say that, nearly 50 years after our inception, using an AIPP accredited photographer is still the best assurance you can get that your chosen photographer is a professional, skilled in the art of photography.”

Wicked Wednesdays: FREE High-Resolution Wool Textures

26 Sep

Wicked Wednesdays makes a return this week with a series of six FREE high-resolution textures of wool. There are balls of yarn in various states of use and in different colours, including dark plum, dark grey, black, red, yellow, orange and a couple of cool multiple-colour balls that change as you knit or crochet. The balls vary in type, including wool and silk blends, wool, silk and alpaca and fully synthetic yarns as well. We’ll have more wool-related textures coming through over the coming weeks, including knitted and crocheted sections; so stay tuned.

As always, Hosking Industries high-resolution texture images are FREE for personal and commercial use. However, you may not resell, repackage or redistribute these textures or generally pass them off as your own for monetary gain etc. Use them in your design projects, but don’t use them for commercial gain.

Model Shoot: Kahli Winters for The Chop Shop

20 Sep

We’ve been picking up a few more private photo shoots over the last few months, which has proven to be a nice break from the magazine work. On this occasion, the guys at The Chop Shop in Gosford, NSW approached us about shooting a local model for some promotional posters and banners in the lead up to the 2012 MotorEx car show.

We’ll admit, when we first took on the job, we thought it was to shoot the model in front of their latest work truck – a mid-century Chev’ – first seen in all its glory at this year’s MotorEx. But as you could imagine, two weeks out from MotorEx and the truck was still unfinished. So, Laurie and Aaron rolled out their next personal project to be the centre of attention: an absolutely slammed 1972 Chevrolet truck. Oh, and then of course there was the gorgeous Kahli Winters posing for our camera.

The main shot you see here is a composite of around 15 images to get the lighting how we wanted it to look, while the other shots focusing more on Kahli are single shots. All use Canon Speedlite flashes and you can find the lighting information on our Flickr page by CLICKING HERE or on the thumbnails below. We’ve also got the main shot as a desktop wallpaper image, too!

Cruise for Charity 9 – Sydney: Sunday September 16, 2012

17 Sep

Here’s a few quick pics from this year’s phenomenal Cruise for Charity event in Sydney, hosted by Street Commodores magazine. This was the event’s ninth year.

This is an event I started when working for the magazine back in 2004 and it has since gone onto become a national event with cruises taking place in each state to raise money for worthwhile charities. I believe the total raised over the last nine years has now surpassed $1,000,000. A big congratulations and thanks to Ellie Thorley from Bubblegum Events for her tireless efforts to take the formula we set over 6 years and run with it. She’s done an incredible job!

This year’s Sydney cruise attracted more than 1000 Holden Commodores from all over the state, with some traveling from interstate. They all converged upon the St Ives Showgrounds, easily filling the large grassed oval and the surrounding areas. Around that were trade stands, ex-magazine feature cars and other Commodore-related activities.

Enjoy the pics.
