Feature Cars: Ferrari FF and Maserati GranCabrio Sport

31 Jan

We had the unexpected and rare pleasure of shooting a pair of Italian exotics before Xmas 2012 for a new magazine, published by Citrus Media. PGA Australia (yes, the golf mob) have a new title out called ‘Escapes’ that concentrates on nice things for well-to-do golf fans to do while they’re not working; like visiting other fancy golf courses or taking exotic holidays.

Being this close and intimate with a pair of luscious ladies like these was an exceptional experience – the Maserati’s V8 high-revving sounds insane. Being a golf magazine, we decided to shoot the pair at Sydney’s Coast Golf Club. Shooting on grass is not something we’d ever done before and felt a little uncomfortable about it as a result, but the theme perfectly suited the magazine.

Thanks to the Coast Golf Club and Ateco Automotive for their assistance making this shoot happen. Be sure to pick up a copy of PGA Australia Escapes!

Feature Bike: Robyn Hines’ Custom Harley Davidson Sportster

29 Jan

Bought as an already-modified 2005 XLC Sportster, Robyn Hines took what was effectively an ugly duckling and transformed it into a bespoke, truly original glamour. Featured in issue 21 of Wild Aussie Choppers (aka Custom Choppers), Robyn’s Harley Davidson sports a 240-wide rear conversion with Renegade billet, rims and more chrome than most.

Perhaps the most unique thing about the bike is the custom paintwork that mixes faux gold tribal graphics and air-brushed steam and moisture up the flanks (hence the number plates, STEMN). Be sure to read all about the bike in issue 21 when it goes on sale shortly.

Feature Car: Leon Julien’s 1959 FC Holden Wagon

24 Jan

Issue 20 of Heavy Duty Hot Rods (aka Genuine Hot Rods) is due to hit the stands real soon and contains four Hosking Industries photo shoots and feature stories. One of those was Scott Briggs‘ immaculate 1932 Ford coupe we brought you last week and another is Leon Julien’s awesome retro FC Holden wagon pictured here.

This mild kustom 1959 wagon was built at home under a 6x3m marquee in the front yard and is powered by a supercharged 208ci Holden six-cylinder stroker motor. Leon is responsible for just about everything and he and his family drive the car to shows up and down the East Coast of NSW, Australia. Be sure to read all about the car and how it came together in issue 20 of the magazine.

Wicked Wednesdays: FREE High-Resolution Knitted Wool Stock Images

23 Jan

These are the last of our series on wool and knitted wool texture images and stock photos. You could say they’ve been a progression from raw wool right through to the end product, but that probably won’t make much difference to those making good use of the images.

The scarves feature a combination of garter and stocking stitch with the majority of those shown using pure wool or wool/alpaca blend wool, with the pink knitted piece being acrylic. All were shot with a Canon 7D / 24-70mm f2.8L and lit by bouncing a Speedlite flash off a nearby wall. All our texture images remain in their original high-resolution format.

Simply CLICK HERE to view the gallery of six images or right-click on the thumbnails below to download the images direct. As always, these are FREE for commercial and personal use, however you may not resell or redistribute or claim them as your own. Enjoy!

Wicked Wednesdays: FREE High-Resolution Knitted Wool Textures

16 Jan

We certainly aren’t as frequent with our Wicked Wednesday FREE texture image extravaganzas these days, but when we bring ’em, we reckon we bring to goods. This week we’ve got more wool and knitted texture stock images. Reason being: Ben learned to knit and proceeded to make scarves for his entire family for Xmas 2012. There, it’s said. We hope you agree he did a good job!

The scarves feature a combination of garter and stocking stitch with the majority of those shown using pure wool or wool/alpaca blend wool, with the pink knitted piece being acrylic. All were shot with a Canon 7D and lit by bouncing a Speedlite flash off a nearby wall. All our texture images remain in their original high-resolution format.

Feature Car: Les Chadwick’s 1976 LX Holden Torana

14 Jan

We’ve got two gorgeous red Torana’s in issue 51 of Xtreme Holdens magazine and this 1976 LX hatch belongs to Les Chadwick. Powered by a 355ci stroker Holden V8 or VT Commodore vintage, the car is flawless and screams ‘classic Torana’. We shot it early one morning in western Sydney.

As always, we’ve got a series of FREE desktop wallpaper images for you to enjoy and strobist fans will find our lighting information on each image’s caption, too. However the main exterior shots are, for the most part, shot purely with natural available light – the details and portrait are strobist, though. Simply CLICK HERE to visit our Flickr page where all the goodies lay in wait for your visit.

Feature Car: Scott Briggs’ 1932 Ford Coupe

10 Jan

Here is a selection of images of Scott Brigg’s immaculate 1932 Ford 3-window coupe, as featured in issue 20 of Heavy Duty Hot Rods (aka Genuine Hot Rods). Scott owns Trik Trim in Forster on NSW’s mid-north coast, known for performing some incredible work on numerous show cars in his time.

Scott’s latest personal creation is this sweet, classically-styled ’32 coupe in Honda silver with a rather traditional, yet expertly finished FPV red leather trim filling the cabin. Powered by a 350ci SBC crate engine that’s dressed to impress, this is the epitome of the classic deuce style and you can read all about its journey from bare chassis to finished car in issue 20 of Heavy Duty Hot Rods.

Live Music: Karnivool @ Metro Theatre, Sydney – Dec 29, 2012

09 Jan

Lifemusicmedia recently published our live images and review of Karnivool’s Sydney show at the Metro Theatre on Saturday December 29, 2012. You can now read the review below and simply click on the thumbnails or CLICK HERE to go view all 37 images of Karnivool and their support act, High Tension.

Karnivool @ Metro Theatre - Dec 29, 2012     Karnivool @ Metro Theatre - Dec 29, 2012

There’s little disputing Karnivool‘s place among the top echelon of Australian music. Their unique brand of progressive rock/metal has won them fans all over the world, including international music critics and renowned musicians alike.

However, the tardy Sydney crowd had this reviewer more than a little worried when four-piece support act High Tension took to the stage to a half-full Metro Theatre. Had Sydneysiders let one of Australia’s best bands down? Had we all fled the city for the Xmas holidays?

Thankfully it was not the case and as High Tension, led by their Eva Spence-style screaming front woman, ripped through their high-energy, fuzz-bomb of a set (only their third gig, apparently), the room continued to fill with eager punters. It’ll be good to watch this band continue to get more stage time together as their incendiary riffage will benefit from an even greater stage presence.

By the time Perth’s Karnivool take to the stage, the Metro is full to the back bar with enthusiastic fans. It’s truly heartening to see the venue packed for an Aussie band and the mood is largely happy and light-hearted with people clearly here to witness something special. Karnivool don’t disappoint, either.
