Feature Bike: Evolution’s 1940 WL Harley Davidson

11 May

We’re proud to bring you a selection of six images from one of our favourite photo shoots of 2012 so far: Evolution’s 1940 WL Harley Davidson, as featured in the upcoming issue 15 of Australia’s Best Choppers (formerly Wild Aussie Choppers). It was actually our first shoot of 2012 and despite feeling we may have been a little rusty after more than a month on hiatus, we were pleased with the results and glad of proprietor Paul McKinnon’s patience in letting us experiment a little.

Paul’s 1940 WL Harley Davidson-powered retro bobber has been receiving a lot of media attention since he finished it last year, thanks surely to some of the custom touches lavished on it, like the Evolution-designed billet front end and Subaru supercharger that’s pumping about 6psi into the old Vtwin. You’ll be able to rear all about the bike in issue 15, in sale soon.

The entire shoot was completed using our regular arsenal of Speedlite flashes and strobist fans can find all the lighting info on our Flickr page, as well as EXIF data. Plus, as always, we’ve uploaded each of the six images as FREE desktop wallpaper images, ready to fill your 1680-resolution monitors. Enjoy! Just CLICK HERE or on the thumbnails below.

Feature Car: Grant Eberhart’s 1955 FJ Holden

09 May

Issue 44 of Custom Utes magazine is about to go one sale and includes our feature photo shoot on Grant Eberhart’s incredible, rich metallic purple 1955 FJ ute. Grant owns and operates X-Trim Trimming in Sydney and as such, the cabin in this old Holden is the focal point of the build. However, the FJ is much more than just a classy red leather interior on wheels. From the neatly converted V6 to the 18in Weld alloy rims; it’s a truly classic Holden. You can read all about the car when the magazine goes on sale shortly.

As always, you can download FREE desktop wallpaper versions of the six images we’ve uploaded to our Flickr page and the strobist fans can check out our lighting setup info as well as our EXIF data. While the exterior shots really only used one flash to fill in a little colour, the detail shots will provide more info. Feature Car: Scott and Gary Bamford’s Ford Hot Rods

02 May

We’ve heard of father/son projects before and we’ve even seen some great ones, but this pair of Fords – namely a 1928 roadster and 1932 5-window coupe – take the cake. Owned by Scott and Gary Bamford, these sweet Fords are enough to make anyone salivate just a little. Father Gary started his black roadster way back in the 1980s, but Scott’s build was much shorter and you can read all about the story on these two in the latest issue (14) of Heavy Duty Hot Rods, on-sale now.

Gary’s roadster is powered by an N/A 302ci Windsor V8 and is a very classic affair. Scott’s ’32 coupe is powered by a stonking great blown small-block 327ci GMC small-block making an estimated 600hp; however that’s untested at this stage. Like his dad’s rod, the coupe is built around a totally classic formula and it works, as the pictures prove.

All the exterior shots were done with natural light only, however strobist fans will find lighting information for the detail shots and the portrait on our Flickr page, where you can also download FREE desktop wallpaper versions of the shots for your own enjoyment. Just CLICK HERE or on the thumbnails below.

Issue 14 of Heavy Duty Hot Rods is just about to hit the stands and contains two photos shoots from Hosking Industries, including this one on Scott Thomas’ wicked 1932 Ford Tudor, pictured below. Scott bought the car sight unseen from the USA a couple of years ago, but luckily for him, the car arrived as described!

The ’32 Ford is powered by a classic 350ci/T350 combo and is dripping with 1990′s stylistic appointments like the scalloped two-tone paint and grey tweed trim. Despite its age, it’s in immaculate condition and you can read all about Scott and the Tudor in issue 14 of the magazine, on sale soon.

For strobist fans, you’ll find all our lighting information on our Flickr page, as well as EXIF data. CLICK HERE to view and download six FREE desktop wallpaper images of the car or click on the thumbnails below.

Feature Car: Sacilotto Family’s Holden EH Utility ‘CLASIC’

23 Apr

Here’s one from the archives… We originally shot the Sacilotto’s incredible EH ute, known as CLASIC, way back in the tail end of 2010. It finally sees the light of day in the upcoming Brute Utes magazine, issue 47, together with the story we wrote on the car. Drenched in custom mauve metallic paint and powered by an L67 factory supercharged V6 and 4L60E gearbox, it’s a refreshing combination of styles and parts that originally landed the car in the prestigious Top 10 at Summernats 21.

No matter where you look, this car oozes attention to detail and you can read all about it when issue 47 of Brute Utes goes on sale very soon. For now, sit back and enjoy some samples from our photo shoot, with all images available as FREE desktop wallpapers in 1680 resolution. Feature Car: Steven Page’s Turbo Mitsubishi Mirage

10 Apr

Check out the results of our first photo shoot for Hot4s magazine: Steven Page’s awesome turbocharged Mitsubishi Mirage, known as EVOLVN. The blue beast will feature in issue 220 of the magazine, due on sale soon. Hailing from out west, we had Steven meet us in Newcastle for the shoot, taking place on Carrington island amongst all the wonderful old industrial stuff there.

Steve’s Mirage has been seriously hopped up with a turbo setup and improved internals, but it’s perhaps the aesthetics of the Mitsu that sets it apart from just about any other on the road today. Just check out the metal flake blue paint, big billet rims and those outrageous Lambo doors. inside it’s a similar story with blinding white trim accompanying a huge stereo system. be sure to pick up a copy of issue 220 Hot4s when it goes on sale soon.

As always, we’ve included six FREE desktop wallpaper-sized images for you to view and download and strobist fans are treated to all the lighting setup information, as well as our EXIF data by CLICKING HERE or on the thumbnails below.

Feature Car: Daniel Poore’s Holden VL Calais VLOCTY

03 Apr

It’s been a while since we had a feature shoot in Street Commodores, but our shoot on Daniel Poore’s awesome Holden VL Calais turbo is finally coming out in issue 195 of the magazine, on-sale shortly. Hosking Industries wrote the feature, too, and we’d love you all to pick up a copy when it goes on sale.

Daniel’s VL, known as VLOCTY, has been through a pretty arduous gestation with engine dramas; but it’s come a long way from its beginnings as a fairly messy old daily. It’s now powered by a big horsepowerRB26/30 turbo hybrid engine that looks as good as it goes. Inside, Eastside Kustoms in Newcastle did an amazing job transforming the interior with black suede.

As always, we’ve got a series of images available as FREE desktop wallpapers and the strobist fans can check out the lighting setups on our Flickr page too. Just CLICK HERE or on the thumbnails below to make the jump.

Feature Car: Jim Pedersen’s 1933 Ford Sedan Hot Rod

29 Mar

Our last feature car for issue 13 of Heavy Duty Hot Rods magazine belongs to Jim Pedersen, from the Newcastle region of NSW, Australia. His beautiful 1933 Ford sedan started as a total wreck that nearly ended up on the scrap heap, but Jim brought it back to life in spectacular fashion over several years.

Riddled with detail from top to bottom, including the undercarriage, the ’33 is powered by a 283ci Chev’ V8 that was actually running a retro-chic set of triples when we first saw it, but now runs a 600cfm Holley as the car is now up for sale. Just check out that awesome metal-flake vinyl interior!

As always we’ve included all the shots in desktop wallpaper resolution FREE for your pleasure and the strobist fans will find lighting information on each image’s caption on our Flickr page. Just CLICK HERE or on the thumbnails below to jump.

Feature Car: Chris Hickman’s Willys Coupe

27 Mar

Issue 13 of Heavy Duty Hot Rods is on-sale now and contains four photo shoots by Hosking Industries, including a shoot on Chris Hickman’s incredible, regularly driven Willys coupe, pictured here. We first saw Chris’ coupe at the first annual Autumnfest, a new rod and custom culture show in Taree, NSW Australia. In fact, the second event is coming up shortly, on the weekend of April 28 and 29, 2012. Check it out HERE.

Back to Chris’ Willys: powered by a 6.71-blown 350ci SBC, the beast makes around 500rwhp and looks every bit as menacing with its slammed stance and huge 15x10in rear hoops. The car is full of cool details, like the frenched Caddy tail lights and plenty more you can read about in Heavy Duty Hot Rods. Be sure to pick up a copy at your local.

As always, we’ve got a bunch of FREE desktop wallpaper versions of the six images here and strobist fans can find lighting information on each image’s caption on our Flickr page. Just CLICK HERE or on the thumbnails below to jump.
