Rig Shots: Hosking Industries Can Do Them!

23 May

Hosking Industries recently acquired one of Rig Pro‘s excellent automotive camera rigs, expanding the range of work the company can do. These are our first results from using the new rig, with the generous assistance of Michael Atkin who donated his time and vehicle for the shoot.

The Rig Pro system proved to be very user-friendly and we’re looking forward to using the rig in various commercial shoots from now on. If you or your business needs automotive photography, contact Hosking Industries today to obtain an obligation-free quote!

Model Shoot: Jessica Pridham for The Chop Shop

21 May

The guys at The Chop Shop in Gosford on NSW’s Central Coast called on us to shoot some promotional images for their 2013 MotorEx campaign. You may recall we photographed their promo stuff for the 2012 event (SEE IT HERE). Naturally, we jumped at the chance to work with the Chop Shop guys again, if for no other reason than to see all their awesome automotive projects up close.

Melbourne’s Jessica Pridham flew up for the shoot this time around. It was also great to try some different lighting options and setups using the same location. Interested photographers can read about our lighting setups and EXIF data on the images at our Flickr page. Everyone can enjoy wallpaper-sized versions there, too. Just CLICK HERE or on the thumbnails below to download ‘em.

Behind the Scenes: Inside Australia’s Coolest Garages

Performance Garage Photo Shoots

Performance Garage Photo Shoots     Performance Garage Photo Shoots

Performance Garage magazine launched in early 2012 through Express Publications and Hosking Industries was there. In the ensuing 18 months or so we’ve shot a number of incredible sheds, garages and workshops for the magazine, capturing the places and the people who use them. We thought it was high time we uploaded some select samples for all of you playing at home.

All the images are of cars and places within NSW Australia, primarily Newcastle and Sydney. Workshops like Ziggy’s Hot Rods and Lowe Fabrications are joined by private man caves and garages owned by guys including the talented Dave Hart, John Stevens, Murray Forman and Brian Apap. Be sure to check this image set again in the future when we add more samples from published shoots.

Feature Cars: Fat Cat Classics’ Jaguar Wedding Cars

22 Mar

It’s not uncommon to see a group of similar cars being used in a wedding procession. Here in Australia, it’s normal to see a line of Holden Toranas or Walkinshaws carrying bride and groom to the church. Perhaps you’ve noticed the occasional convoy of Harley Davidsons performing similar duties. But have you ever seen a line of matching supercharged Jaguars wearing the same paintwork, wheel choice and boasting roots blowers protruding through the bonnets? Didn’t think so.

That’s exactly why Extreme Action magazine commissioned us to photograph Fat Cat Classics’ trio of fine ladies for issue 99 of the magazine and write up the story on how they came to be. Shot within the confines of Forza Performance’s Sydney workshop, the trio includes the 1971 XJ12 known as Marilyn with its 400ci Chevrolet V8 and 4/71 supercharger; as well as the even more bruising 1963 MK10 known as Elizabeth, running a stout 383ci stroker topped with an 8/71 blower. Talk about getting to your wedding fast!

As always, we’ve got a series of FREE desktop wallpaper images for you to enjoy and strobist fans will find our lighting information and EXIF data on each image’s caption, too. Simply CLICK HERE or on the thumbnails below to visit our Flickr page where all the goodies lay in wait for your visit.

Feature Bike: Zero Engineering Type 5

18 Mar

We had the pleasure of photographing the Zero Engineering Type 5 bobber, bolted together by Action Motorcycles in Sydney in late 2012. Our photos and feature story have been featured in issue 127 of Heavy Duty Magazine, which is on sale right now!

Modelled around the Zero Engineering bike seen in the Iron Man films, this Type 5 is powered by a Harley Davidson twin and 5-speed ‘box, but boasts custom paint and other aesthetic treatments, such as the ‘Iron Man’ short exhaust. Perhaps the best thing about the Zero bikes is that they’re ADR compliant, registered and ready to ride.

Feature Bike: Nathan Moses’ 1950 Harley Davidson

27 Feb

Our photo shoot and feature story on Nathan Moses’ cool retro 1950 Harley Davidson appeared in issue 20 of Wild Aussie Choppers (aka Ultimate Choppers). Nathan bought the bike from the USA and shipped it over for less than he could have built it for here. He tells us that, luckily, the bike came as good as, or better than advertised. Nice one!

Boasting a ’49 Springer front end, 84ci stroker twin and enough retro style to win anyone over, the bike enjoys an eight-page spread in the magazine. Be sure to check it out, on-sale now!

Feature Bike: Stef Niceski’s 1954 Triumph Thunderbird

15 Feb

Sadly issue 21 of Wild Aussie Choppers (aka Custom Choppers) is the last to come out. On the bright side, it contains our feature story and photo shoot on Stef Niceski’s 1954 Triumph Thunderbird, pictured here! Be sure to check it out, on-sale now.

Shot at the very cool 1346 Venice function centre in Waterloo, NSW Australia, Stef’s Trumpy was built over a period of two years “and a million beers”. The basis of the project was a partially disassembled 1954 Thunderbird that Stefan found in an old shed, complete with a tomato plant growing over it. You’d never know it today.

Feature Car: Matthew Sharp’s 1930 Model-A Ford

12 Feb

Gracing the cover of issue 20 of Heavy Duty Hot Rods magazine (aka Genuine Hot Rods) is Matt Sharp’s awesome chopped and channeled 1930 Model-A Ford. Built by Matt and Tony Webster from Webby’s Speed Shop in Carrington, NSW Australia, the chunky metalflake orange tudor runs a mild Holden V8 for reliability and cruising grunt.

As you can see, this beast is an homage to the heyday of hot rodding, including tall bias ply white walls, Moon tanks and good old rodder’s ingenuity in making seemingly incompatible parts fit together to make a glorious whole. Be sure to see much more of the car in issue 20, on-sale now!

Feature Car: Davin Cochrane’s LS1-Powered LH Holden Torana

06 Feb

Two red Toranas in one issue? Yep, Xtreme Holdens issue 51 contains two red LH/LX Toranas, but they are different animals. Les Chadwick’s 355ci-powered hatch is a total classic Australian street machine, whereas Davin Cochrane’s four-door, pictured here, has gone an altogether different route.

Powered by an LS1 alloy V8 and T56 and wearing a set of Simmons FR rims, Davin’s LH is the epitome of retrotech flavour. You can read all about the radical modern transformation that took place in issue 51, over a generous nine page feature.

Feature Car: Paul Lonergran’s Insane 1928 Dodge Rat Rod

04 Feb

Issue 20 of Heavy Duty Hot Rods (aka Genuine Hot Rods) is on sale now and boasts four photo shoots and feature stories by Hosking Industries, including one on Paul Lonergran’s insane 1928 Dodge Rat Rod, pictured here. Paul’s beastie has been built on the cheap, using parts from around his shop and home collection and Paul claims he did it all for a measly $42!

The phantom ’28 Dodge is powered by a high-revving 327ci small-block Chevrolet V8 and the car features more patina than a rusty boat anchor with corrosion and rust at every turn. Rat rods don’t come much more genuinely ratty than Paul’s. Who’d have it any other way?!
