Feature Car: Leon Julien’s 1959 FC Holden Wagon

24 Jan

Issue 20 of Heavy Duty Hot Rods (aka Genuine Hot Rods) is due to hit the stands real soon and contains four Hosking Industries photo shoots and feature stories. One of those was Scott Briggs‘ immaculate 1932 Ford coupe we brought you last week and another is Leon Julien’s awesome retro FC Holden wagon pictured here.

This mild kustom 1959 wagon was built at home under a 6x3m marquee in the front yard and is powered by a supercharged 208ci Holden six-cylinder stroker motor. Leon is responsible for just about everything and he and his family drive the car to shows up and down the East Coast of NSW, Australia. Be sure to read all about the car and how it came together in issue 20 of the magazine.

As always, we’ve got a series of FREE desktop wallpaper images for you to enjoy and strobist fans will find our lighting information and EXIF data on each image’s caption, too. Simply CLICK HERE or on the thumbnails below to visit our Flickr page where all the goodies lay in wait for your visit.

Wicked Wednesdays: FREE High-Resolution Knitted Wool Stock Images

23 Jan

These are the last of our series on wool and knitted wool texture images and stock photos. You could say they’ve been a progression from raw wool right through to the end product, but that probably won’t make much difference to those making good use of the images.

The scarves feature a combination of garter and stocking stitch with the majority of those shown using pure wool or wool/alpaca blend wool, with the pink knitted piece being acrylic. All were shot with a Canon 7D / 24-70mm f2.8L and lit by bouncing a Speedlite flash off a nearby wall. All our texture images remain in their original high-resolution format.

Simply CLICK HERE to view the gallery of six images or right-click on the thumbnails below to download the images direct. As always, these are FREE for commercial and personal use, however you may not resell or redistribute or claim them as your own. Enjoy!

Wicked Wednesdays: FREE High-Resolution Knitted Wool Textures

16 Jan

We certainly aren’t as frequent with our Wicked Wednesday FREE texture image extravaganzas these days, but when we bring ‘em, we reckon we bring to goods. This week we’ve got more wool and knitted texture stock images. Reason being: Ben learned to knit and proceeded to make scarves for his entire family for Xmas 2012. There, it’s said. We hope you agree he did a good job!

Feature Car: Les Chadwick’s 1976 LX Holden Torana

14 Jan

We’ve got two gorgeous red Torana’s in issue 51 of Xtreme Holdens magazine and this 1976 LX hatch belongs to Les Chadwick. Powered by a 355ci stroker Holden V8 or VT Commodore vintage, the car is flawless and screams ‘classic Torana’. We shot it early one morning in western Sydney.

As always, we’ve got a series of FREE desktop wallpaper images for you to enjoy and strobist fans will find our lighting information on each image’s caption, too. However the main exterior shots are, for the most part, shot purely with natural available light – the details and portrait are strobist, though. Simply CLICK HERE to visit our Flickr page where all the goodies lay in wait for your visit.

Feature Bike: Evolution’s Custom 1973 Iron Head Sportster

07 Jan

We shot this gorgeous custom 1973 Harley Davidson Iron Head Sportster for a new client, Heavy Duty magazine. You can see the entire feature and accompanying story in issue 126, on-sale now.

Built by Evolution Custom Industries – check out their supercharged WL that we shot in 2012 HERE – the bike features a custom rigid rear end and that striking none-blacker appearance that’s highlighted by all the brass fittings and discoloured stainless exhaust (done that way on purpose, naturally).

Feature Car: Stuart Dunbar’s 1929 Model-A Ford

13 Dec

Issue 19 of Heavy Duty Hot Rods (aka Rat Rods & Hot Rods) features our photo shoot and feature story on Stuart Dunbar’s incredible and unique 1929 Model-A Ford Tourer. Powered by a 1949 250ci Buick straight-8 engine, it’s not your usual Model-A and the deeper you dig, the more bespoke it becomes. The best bit is that Stuart, with the help of great car guys like Dave Hart, built it almost entirely at home.

Feature Bike: Mark’s Custom 127ci Kraftech Chopper

05 Dec

Issue 19 of Wild Aussie Choppers (aka Crazy Choppers) is on sale NOW and features our photo shoot and feature story on Mark’s awesome 127ci rigid-frame Kraftech chopper, pictured here. Built in his workshop at home, this is his first bike build and from the discussions we had with him, it won’t be his last. That’s a good thing when you take the time to drool over the liquid black paint and gleaming chrome on this big-cube beast.

Feature Car: Ross’ HQ Holden One Tonner

13 Nov

We photographed Ross’ tough, nitrous-injected HQ Holden one-tonner utility on the Northern Beaches of Sydney back in 2011. It’s powered by a Holden V8 with a big direct-port nitrous setup that you just know gives this ute a big kick in the pants. It’s full of all the tough gear;  right down to the utilitarian Kirkey race seat that must be hell to endure when cruising on the street.

Feature Car: Craig Lockhart’s 1964 EH Holden “Crewman”

09 Nov

Now for something a little different! Craig Lockhart owns what is probably the ONLY vehicle of its kind in the world in the form of this 1964 EH Holden ute. It boasts a stretched and massaged phantom body style, resembling the much more modern Crewman that Holden released with the advent of the VY model some years ago. You can read all about it and see some build shots in issue 50 of Brute Utes magazine, which is due to go on sale any day now.

It’s powered by a VT 304ci injected 5L V8 engine and features custom interior trim as well as immense detail no matter where you look; including under the car where everything has been painted and smoothed to a high sheen. Even the stainless exhaust system has been polished. Be sure to check it out when the magazine goes on sale.

As always, you’ll find our photos on Flickr complete with EXIF data and lighting information, however only the detail shots used any artificial lighting. The exterior shots were all shot using nothing but Mother Nature’s wonderful lighting from above. Sorry to all the strobist fans out there. Feature Car: Col’s HR Holden Ute

02 Nov

We had the pleasure of shooting Col’s incredible HR Holden utility early in 2011. It hasn’t seen the light of day in print yet, but we wanted to show you just how nice this old ute is. You can regularly see Col and the HR on show at car shows all over the greater Sydney area, including All Holden Day each year.

Powered by a nicely dressed small-block Chevrolet V8, the ute features a sweet red leather trim, large diameter billet rims and die-straight bodywork. Just to make things even better, Col says he’s now turning this same level of attention to another old Holden. Can’t wait to see that!

As always, you’ll find our photos on Flickr complete with EXIF data and lighting information, however only the detail shots used any artificial lighting. The exterior shots were all shot using nothing but Mother Nature’s wonderful lighting from above in the early morning. Sorry to all the strobist fans out there.
