Feature Car: Nick Blunck’s 1961 Volkswagen Beetle

12 Dec

Nick Blunck is a dedicated VW fan. He owns at least two Beetles and can be regularly seen posting images of sexy Euro sports cars via his social media channels.
He lusted after a period-specific rally-style Beetle using parts and mods you might have seen in the 1950s, using parts from companies around at the time like Oettinger. This tasty example is the result of his toil and it is featured in issue 60 of VW Magazine Australia.

I photographed Graham Battersby’s Turbo 1835cc 1967 Volkswagen Beetle for VW Magazine Australia and it appeared in the May-July 2018 issue, which is still on shelves nationwide now. Such a cool beastie.

Feature Car: Manuel Vassallo’s 1958 Volkswagen Beetle

01 Mar

Manuel Vassallo’s retro-chic, patina-loving 1958 Volkswagen beetle is the real deal. No faux rust or patina here. It’s all legit, weather beaten history on wheels and was featured in the Feb-Apr 2018 issue of VW Magazine Australia.

Feature Car: Andy Roberts’ 1951 Volkswagen Split-Window Beetle

12 Jul

Andy Roberts’ concours-level 1951 Volkswagen Split Window Beetle was first registered in NSW, Australia in 1952, two years before imports began, making it the first ever registered in the state. It was treated to a ground-up restoration in the 1980s and remains one of the finest examples you’re likely to see. I had the pleasure of seeing it up close when I shot it for VW Magazine Australia and you can see the photos and read the story in the latest issue, which is out now.

Feature Car: Wayne Penrose Racing Volkswagen Beetle

18 May

I’d been hanging to see my shoot on Wayne Penrose’s incredible race car make it into print. This thing is unlike any other Beetle you’re ever likely to see. It might look like a ’70s Superbug, but underneath is a Formula-2 open-wheel race car running a huge 2827ml stroker motor with a T04E/60-1 turbo making 460rwhp! Look at the attention to detail in this thing! You can read the whole story of it’s 25-year history in the latest issue of VW Magazine Australia, on-sale nationwide now.

Feature Car: Tony’s 1967 1300 Volkswagen Beetle

14 Nov

Our first photo shoot for VW Magazine Australia came out last week: a feature on Tony’s immaculately restored 1967 1300 Volkswagen Beetle. Photographing unmodified vehicles is certainly something new to Hosking Industries, but we enjoyed the change and the feature looks great.

Tony has a long history of modifying Rotary-powered Mazdas, but with a young family and a few more years under his belt, the Beetle is now the automotive love of his life. Be sure to read the entire story in the November-January issue, which is on sale now.

As always, we’ve got a series of FREE desktop wallpaper images for you to enjoy and strobist fans will find our lighting information and EXIF data on each image’s caption, too (although only the detail shots used off-camera flash).
