Feature Bike: Nathan Moses’ 1950 Harley Davidson

27 Feb

Our photo shoot and feature story on Nathan Moses’ cool retro 1950 Harley Davidson appeared in issue 20 of Wild Aussie Choppers (aka Ultimate Choppers). Nathan bought the bike from the USA and shipped it over for less than he could have built it for here. He tells us that, luckily, the bike came as good as, or better than advertised. Nice one!

Boasting a ’49 Springer front end, 84ci stroker twin and enough retro style to win anyone over, the bike enjoys an eight-page spread in the magazine. Be sure to check it out, on-sale now!

As always, we’ve got a series of FREE desktop wallpaper images for you to enjoy and strobist fans will find our lighting information and EXIF data on each image’s caption, too. Simply CLICK HERE or on the thumbnails below to visit our Flickr page where all the goodies lay in wait for your visit.

Feature Bike: Stef Niceski’s 1954 Triumph Thunderbird

15 Feb

Sadly issue 21 of Wild Aussie Choppers (aka Custom Choppers) is the last to come out. On the bright side, it contains our feature story and photo shoot on Stef Niceski’s 1954 Triumph Thunderbird, pictured here! Be sure to check it out, on-sale now.

Shot at the very cool 1346 Venice function centre in Waterloo, NSW Australia, Stef’s Trumpy was built over a period of two years “and a million beers”. The basis of the project was a partially disassembled 1954 Thunderbird that Stefan found in an old shed, complete with a tomato plant growing over it. You’d never know it today.

Feature Bike: Robyn Hines’ Custom Harley Davidson Sportster

29 Jan

Bought as an already-modified 2005 XLC Sportster, Robyn Hines took what was effectively an ugly duckling and transformed it into a bespoke, truly original glamour. Featured in issue 21 of Wild Aussie Choppers (aka Custom Choppers), Robyn’s Harley Davidson sports a 240-wide rear conversion with Renegade billet, rims and more chrome than most.

Perhaps the most unique thing about the bike is the custom paintwork that mixes faux gold tribal graphics and air-brushed steam and moisture up the flanks (hence the number plates, STEMN). Be sure to read all about the bike in issue 21 when it goes on sale shortly.

Issue 19 of Wild Aussie Choppers (aka Crazy Choppers) is on sale NOW and features our photo shoot and feature story on Mark’s awesome 127ci rigid-frame Kraftech chopper, pictured here. Built in his workshop at home, this is his first bike build and from the discussions we had with him, it won’t be his last. Feature Bike: Davo Voodoo’s Custom Honda Bobber

30 Aug

Issue 18 of Wild Aussie Choppers magazine (aka Australia’s Hottest Bobbers & Customs) is coming out soon and also features a shoot and story we did on Davo Voodoo’s wicked little Honda-powered retro-styled bobber. Davo runs Voodoo Tattoo on NSW’s Central Coast and bought this bike as an unfinished project at the 2011 Taren Point Rat Day, which is also where we first laid eyes on the stainless steel-framed machine.

It’s powered by a 600cc Honda engine and damages kidneys with a rigid frame and distinct lack of suspension in the seating area as well. To ensure everyone realises it’s got a stainless frame, Davo went for an unpainted look on the frame and matched that with a scuffed look on the tank and guard, where Davo nicely finished things off with his first ever automotive paint job. Be sure to read more about the bike in issue 18, when it goes on sale in September.

For now, enjoy six FREE desktop wallpaper images of the bike on our Flickr page by CLICKING HERE or on the thumbnails below. Strobist fans will also find our lighting and EXIF info there. Thanks to the guys at The Chop Shop for letting us shoot in their workshop.

Feature Bike: Evolution’s 1940 WL Harley Davidson

11 May

We’re proud to bring you a selection of six images from one of our favourite photo shoots of 2012 so far: Evolution’s 1940 WL Harley Davidson, as featured in the upcoming issue 15 of Australia’s Best Choppers (formerly Wild Aussie Choppers). It was actually our first shoot of 2012 and despite feeling we may have been a little rusty after more than a month on hiatus, we were pleased with the results and glad of proprietor Paul McKinnon’s patience in letting us experiment a little.

Paul’s 1940 WL Harley Davidson-powered retro bobber has been receiving a lot of media attention since he finished it last year, thanks surely to some of the custom touches lavished on it, like the Evolution-designed billet front end and Subaru supercharger that’s pumping about 6psi into the old Vtwin. You’ll be able to rear all about the bike in issue 15, in sale soon.

The entire shoot was completed using our regular arsenal of Speedlite flashes and strobist fans can find all the lighting info on our Flickr page, as well as EXIF data. Plus, as always, we’ve uploaded each of the six images as FREE desktop wallpaper images, ready to fill your 1680-resolution monitors. Enjoy! Just CLICK HERE or on the thumbnails below.
