Feature Car: Leon Julien’s 1959 FC Holden Wagon

24 Jan

Issue 20 of Heavy Duty Hot Rods (aka Genuine Hot Rods) is due to hit the stands real soon and contains four Hosking Industries photo shoots and feature stories. One of those was Scott Briggs‘ immaculate 1932 Ford coupe we brought you last week and another is Leon Julien’s awesome retro FC Holden wagon pictured here.

This mild kustom 1959 wagon was built at home under a 6x3m marquee in the front yard and is powered by a supercharged 208ci Holden six-cylinder stroker motor. Leon is responsible for just about everything and he and his family drive the car to shows up and down the East Coast of NSW, Australia. Be sure to read all about the car and how it came together in issue 20 of the magazine.

As always, we’ve got a series of FREE desktop wallpaper images for you to enjoy and strobist fans will find our lighting information and EXIF data on each image’s caption, too. Simply CLICK HERE or on the thumbnails below to visit our Flickr page where all the goodies lay in wait for your visit.

Feature Car: David Chami’s LS1 LH Holden Torana

16 Aug

Issue 47 of Xtreme Holdens is due out soon and contains our photo shoot and feature story on David Chami’s cool self-built LH Holden Torana. Powered by a late-model LS1 alloy V8, this unassuming beast mixes classic Holden appeal with modern Holden power.

In a potentially perilous turn of events, Dave actually bought the car on the internet, sight unseen. Luckily for him, everything turned out OK and the car still wears that same coat of paint today. While the trim is original, everything under the car has been changed and you can read all about it in issue 47 of Xtreme Holdens.

As always, we’ve got a raft of FREE desktop wallpaper images for you to view and download on our Flickr page. Strobist fans and camera buffs will also find our lighting info and EXIF data there, however the exterior shots were primarily shot using natural available light. Darren's VX Commodore Photoshoot

After laying out about $8000+ in new camera gear over the last couple of months, all along with the niew to shooting all manner of things including cars, I took my first steps into shooting feature cars by taking some test shots of my mate’s VX Holden Commodore. These three shots and five others on my Flickr page are the results.

I used two 430EXII and a 580EXII flash with two sitting on the ground and one on a stand, all at full power and controlled by Cactus V4 triggers. I’m pleased with the results and am now looking forward to shooting my first proper feature car for Street Commodores soon.
