Feature Car: Paul Lonergran’s Insane 1928 Dodge Rat Rod

04 Feb

Issue 20 of Heavy Duty Hot Rods (aka Genuine Hot Rods) is on sale now and boasts four photo shoots and feature stories by Hosking Industries, including one on Paul Lonergran’s insane 1928 Dodge Rat Rod, pictured here. Paul’s beastie has been built on the cheap, using parts from around his shop and home collection and Paul claims he did it all for a measly $42!

The phantom ’28 Dodge is powered by a high-revving 327ci small-block Chevrolet V8 and the car features more patina than a rusty boat anchor with corrosion and rust at every turn. Rat rods don’t come much more genuinely ratty than Paul’s. Who’d have it any other way?!

As always, we’ve got a series of FREE desktop wallpaper images for you to enjoy and strobist fans will find our lighting information and EXIF data on each image’s caption, too. Simply CLICK HERE or on the thumbnails below to visit our Flickr page where all the goodies lay in wait for your visit.

Feature Car: Dave Hart’s 1953 Chevrolet Lead Sled Sedan

15 Oct

Along with Dave Hart’s awesome 1933 Ford tourer that we showed you last week, we also shot his 1953 Chev’ lead sled for the same issue of Heavy Duty Hot Rods magazine (aka Modified Street Hot Rods), which goes on sale any day now. Dave also built this machine himself in the shed at home, including the weekend roof chop and long, lapping flame job.

The Chevrolet is used as Dave’s wife’s daily, proving once and for all that car like this shouldn’t be kept in the shed. Backing it up is a 2009 350ci small-block and T350 and as you can see from the pics, this beast is visually loud. Clearly it’s the way Dave likes things to be.

As always, we’ve got a selection of desktop wallpaper-sized images for you to view and download for your own computer. For the photogs, you’ll find our EXIF data on each image as well. Just CLICK HERE or on the thumbnails below to jump.

Feature Car: Greg Pennell’s XL Ford Falcon

13 Aug

Issue 17 of Heavy Duty Hot Rods magazine (aka Wild Custom Hot Rods) is due out soon and contains our photo shoot and feature story on Greg Pennell’s awesome XL Ford Falcon kustom sedan, pictured here. If the name sounds familiar, it’s because we’ve also photographed his custom chopper – SEE IT HERE.

Built on the cheap for trouble-free cruising with the family, this XL features a tonne of excellent paint effects all performed by Greg, who now runs his own custom shop on the Central Coast of NSW. It’s powered by the original 250ci straight six and 3-speed auto, but just about everything else has been modified. Be sure to get the full story when the magazine goes on sale.

Oh, and if you’re wondering why Greg and his family are cozying up on a picnic blanket in a tunnel… we had a nice plan to shoot in a grassy park, but the dismally wet summer we had saw our shoot day compromised by torrential rain. Still looks cool though, right?

As always. we’ve got some great desktop wallpaper images of the car for you totally FREE and photogs can get the low down on our lighting setup and EXIF data on our Flickr page, too. Just CLICK HERE or on the thumbnails below.

Feature Cars: Al & Kerry Scott’s 1938/1950 Chevrolets

12 Jul

Not content to own one beautiful street rod, Al & Kerry Scott have at least two gorgeous pre-1950 Chevrolet rods parked on their premises, both lovingly built by Al himself, with another couple on the boil. Pictured here are Al’s two completed machines: a WRX blue 1938 model and a Hothouse green 1950 coupe, both powered by small-blocks. You can read all about both in the extensive feature story in issue 16 of Heavy Duty Hot Rods, which goes on sale this month.

Featuring nice details like shaved handles, slammed suspension (the ’50 uses bags) and neat interiors, they’re a classy pair that prove you don’t need a blue oval on your rod to be cool. As always, we’ve got a selection of FREE desktop wallpaper images for your enjoyment and photographers can check out the details of our lighting setups on our Flickr page, as well as EXIF data.
