Wicked Wednesdays: FREE High-Resolution Macro Textures

17 Jul

Wicked Wednesdays is here again, folks! One more lot of FREE high-resolution macro photographic texture images for your enjoyment. They’re a little more obscure and random this time around, with some shots of sea shells, radiator fins, sand-smoothed broken glass, an electric guitar’s selector switch and of course, more wool! We hope you are able to find uses for them all. If we find the time to get out and shoot some more soon, we’ll bring you more in the future. Feel free to send requests.

All images were shot on a Canon 7D with a 100mm f2.8L macro lens, using several shots of each object for focus stacking.

Simply CLICK HERE to view the gallery of six images or right-click on the thumbnails below to download the images direct. As always, these are FREE for commercial and personal creative use, however you may not resell or redistribute or claim them as your own. Enjoy!

Live Photos: Seether + Numbers Radio – Metro Theatre, Sydney (05.02.12)

07 Feb

TheAUreview has just published our live concert photos and short review on the Seether gig that took place at the Metro Theatre on Sunday Feb 5, 2012 here in Sydney. Seether was supported by Brisbane’s Numbers Radio and the bands played to an almost full house. Check out our photos by CLICKING HERE or on the image below. Here’s an snippet from the review:

…Running perfectly on time, Seether took to the stage in classic form, with the tattered Metro curtains slowly rolling back to reveal the three piece shrouded in darkness. Sadly this dim lighting prevailed for much of the show, with only momentary bursts of light illuminating the band here and there throughout their set…

Wicked Wednesdays: FREE High-Resolution Patina Textures

07 Sep

Yeah, we know… it’s only been a couple of weeks since our last series of high-resolution patina textures. But come on, the 2011 Taren Point Rat Day was just on again this last Father’s Day and the place was full to the brim with brilliantly rusty cars. What would you do!? Yeah, thought so. heheh

As always, Hosking Industries high-resolution texture images are FREE for personal and commercial use. However, you may not resell, repackage or redistribute these textures or generally pass them off as your own for monetary gain etc. Use them in your design projects, but don’t use them for commercial gain.

Coming Soon: 1990s Music Revival

12 Aug

The 1990s: what an amazing time for music and Hosking Industries was there. Well, Ben Hosking was, anyway (is it weird talking about one’s self in the third person?). I’ve talked briefly about my old ‘zine 27twelve on this blog before, way back when I still found myself with some spare time. I reviewed about 10 CDs in that little ‘zine each month, as well as running interviews and live reviews of the acts at the time.

I also wrote for Newcastle, Australia music press outlet ‘concretepress‘. It was in the more traditional tabloid newspaper format and fed music and arts news to the Hunter region. Both publications pre-dated the internet age and due to my computer at the time not having the storage space to house my hundreds of reviews and other documents, today I find myself with only A4 paper print outs of them.

I got to thinking the other day that it could be cool to type up each of these reviews and post them on this blog as a way of remembering this special time in my life and in the life of the music business. A time before the industry crashed and so many new genres were being created as opposed to simply rehashing old ones.

So, over the coming weeks and months I’ll be endeavouring to type up as many of the old reviews as  I can, including gig reviews; creating a new ‘1990s’ section of the blog so you can find them all easily. I’d love to hear your thoughts not only about the idea, but also hear your memories of the 1990s (if you were old enough to enjoy them).

Stay tuned!

Wicked Wednesdays: FREE High-Res Moss and Lichen Textures

18 May

This week’s textures are all of moss and lichen, commonly found on rocks in damp places like the bush or a shady cliff face – which exactly where we found all six textures here. They’re of different types of moss and lichen… basically as many different types as we could find without jumping a plane to the Amazon.

Someone told me recently that wood/timber texture images were a big-ticket item these days… so, we thought we should go ahead and bring you six more! Well, OK, so the first part is a lie. No one told us timber textures were in demand. But, our web traffic indicates there are plenty of you out there who are looking for them.

So, this week we bring you a collection of six new wood texture images in high resolution. They include bark, trunks, roots and even an old weathered chair with cracking paint.

Wicked Wednesdays: FREE High-Resolution Decay Textures

06 Apr

Worn, aged, decayed, damaged, dirty, grungy, old… there are some words in the english language that get us excited and for some reason these are some of those words. We just love the look of aged, decayed old surfaces, rusting metal, flaking paint, decade’s old paint splatters… you get the idea. So this week we’ve got a collection of six high-resolution images containing stuff like that all for you and all for free!

We snapped these photos with the trusty 7D while out shooting a Ute Muster in Castle Hill, NSW Australia last weekend – so they’re fresh and new, unlike the subject matter!

As usual, all Hosking Industries texture images are FREE for personal and commercial use, however we do not permit the resale, repackaging or redistribution of the images. In short, don’t go passing them off as your own, putting them in some super jumbo compilation of super dooper textures under your own name and crap like that. We’ll take your balls!
