Model Shoot: Jessica Pridham for The Chop Shop

21 May

The guys at The Chop Shop in Gosford on NSW’s Central Coast called on us to shoot some promotional images for their 2013 MotorEx campaign. You may recall we photographed their promo stuff for the 2012 event (SEE IT HERE). Naturally, we jumped at the chance to work with the Chop Shop guys again, if for no other reason than to see all their awesome automotive projects up close.

Melbourne’s Jessica Pridham flew up for the shoot this time around. It was also great to try some different lighting options and setups using the same location. Interested photographers can read about our lighting setups and EXIF data on the images at our Flickr page. Everyone can enjoy wallpaper-sized versions there, too. Just CLICK HERE or on the thumbnails below to download ‘em.

InFocus Australasia Magazine

Issue 2 of Australia’s newest photography magazine – InFocus Australasia – has just hit Apple’s Newsstand. A native iPad publication, InFocus is totally FREE. GET IT HERE!

This month’s issue includes two new features, including a News and Events section and a Cover Story. This month’s cover story is all about the convergence of stills and video for the professional photographer.

Also inside issue 2 is an interview with the AIPP’s CEO Peter Meyers and an interview with Nadine Saacks, who won the Album of the Year awards in 2012 with her wonderful series of images from a trip to Cuba. There’s also plenty to learn in issue 2 with tutorials on shooting with refraction, learning the basics of exposure and a continuation on our look at the anatomy of a DSLR camera from issue 1. We also take a long look at Canon’s new game-changing 1DC, as well as other digital cameras that can take 4K video footage.

Behind the Scenes: Inside Australia’s Coolest Garages

Performance Garage Photo Shoots

Performance Garage Photo Shoots     Performance Garage Photo Shoots

Performance Garage magazine launched in early 2012 through Express Publications and Hosking Industries was there. In the ensuing 18 months or so we’ve shot a number of incredible sheds, garages and workshops for the magazine, capturing the places and the people who use them. We thought it was high time we uploaded some select samples for all of you playing at home.

All the images are of cars and places within NSW Australia, primarily Newcastle and Sydney. Workshops like Ziggy’s Hot Rods and Lowe Fabrications are joined by private man caves and garages owned by guys including the talented Dave Hart, John Stevens, Murray Forman and Brian Apap. Be sure to check this image set again in the future when we add more samples from published shoots.

Promo Shoot: Sydney Singer/Songwriter Lily Fisher

Lily Fisher Promo Photo Shoot

We recently had the pleasure of conducting a photo shoot with Sydney singer and songwriter Lily Fisher. We travelled up to the scenic national parks of Sydney’s north shore area to help reflect some of the environmental themes in Lily’s lyrics.

CLICK HERE or on the image above to see six images from the shoot. Some images were taken using only natural light, while others used a few small flash guns to provide the main and rim lighting. Photography enthusiasts can check out the lighting and EXIF info on each image by visiting our Flickr page.

We’d definitely recommend checking out Lily’s music. You can keep up to date with her gig dates and listen to her recorded music by CLICKING HERE. Or, you can scroll down to view a video of her live performance.

If you or your band need fresh promo photos, contact us today for an obligation-free quote. We’re happy to service the greater Sydney and Newcastle regions. (more…)

The annual Soundwave festival tour never fails to bring some excellent ‘Sidewave’ action along with it. 2013 saw numerous fantastic Sidewave lineups, including the Slayer show we shot and reviewed HERE. We were asked to go along and shoot the Bullet for My Valentine show at Sydney’s HiFi a couple of days after the Slayer show and were not disappointed. Read our review below and CLICK HERE or on the thumbnails above to check out the gallery (items originally published on heavymag.com.au):

Plain and simple: if we’d paid to see Bullet for My Valentine‘s gig tonight and happened to be under 18, we’d be pissed. The two age brackets were split into two lines, with the kids funnelled up into the mezzanine level of the venue, well away from the action (and the bars, granted) below. You can tell by the looks on the faces upstairs that this decision is not a popular one.

US five-piece Miss May I open the evening’s activities with a frenetic set that sees front man Levi Benton enthusiastically cover more kilometres of stage in one short set than some musicians cover in their careers. The band has no problem getting the early crowd moshing with their brand of metalcore, covering tracks from Monument and 2012′s At Heart, despite largely playing in the HiFi’s murky darkness. Seattle Washington’s Demon Hunter toured Australia for the first time this month and Hosking Industries was at Sydney’s Manning Bar to cover all the action. It was a five band line-up for the gig, with three Sydney deathcore/metalcore bands playing support to Demon Hunter and their fellow American Christian metal band I, the Breather. Read our review below (originally published on lifemusicmedia.com). CLICK HERE or on the thumbnails to view all 32 images:

Tonight’s show at the Manning Bar proved to be a great event for fans of the deathcore and metalcore persuasions. Not only that, but with three local bands supporting the two US-based attractions, it was a great showcase of Sydney talent, too.

five-piece deathcore outfit Absolution kicked off proceedings to a fairly empty room, no doubt thanks to the early start. Despite a wobbly start with a mismatch of grandiose intro music and overly casual on-stage entrance, the band launched into a brutal set containing some truly bludgeoning breakdowns.

Caulfield upped the ante with a tight set of blistering metalcore of the two-singer variety. Tonight proved to be a veritable smorgasbord of talented drummers and Caulfield’s sticksman belted the crap out of his kit. But the band’s livewire bassist was undoubtedly the highlight; seemingly incapable of standing still for even a moment and putting on a great show. With plenty of big melodic choruses, they have no problem generating some movement in the small crowd. (more…)

Feature Cars: Fat Cat Classics’ Jaguar Wedding Cars

22 Mar

It’s not uncommon to see a group of similar cars being used in a wedding procession. Here in Australia, it’s normal to see a line of Holden Toranas or Walkinshaws carrying bride and groom to the church. Perhaps you’ve noticed the occasional convoy of Harley Davidsons performing similar duties. But have you ever seen a line of matching supercharged Jaguars wearing the same paintwork, wheel choice and boasting roots blowers protruding through the bonnets? Didn’t think so.

That’s exactly why Extreme Action magazine commissioned us to photograph Fat Cat Classics’ trio of fine ladies for issue 99 of the magazine and write up the story on how they came to be. Shot within the confines of Forza Performance’s Sydney workshop, the trio includes the 1971 XJ12 known as Marilyn with its 400ci Chevrolet V8 and 4/71 supercharger; as well as the even more bruising 1963 MK10 known as Elizabeth, running a stout 383ci stroker topped with an 8/71 blower. Talk about getting to your wedding fast!

As always, we’ve got a series of FREE desktop wallpaper images for you to enjoy and strobist fans will find our lighting information and EXIF data on each image’s caption, too. Simply CLICK HERE or on the thumbnails below to visit our Flickr page where all the goodies lay in wait for your visit.

Feature Bike: Zero Engineering Type 5

18 Mar

We had the pleasure of photographing the Zero Engineering Type 5 bobber, bolted together by Action Motorcycles in Sydney in late 2012. Our photos and feature story have been featured in issue 127 of Heavy Duty Magazine, which is on sale right now!

Modelled around the Zero Engineering bike seen in the Iron Man films, this Type 5 is powered by a Harley Davidson twin and 5-speed ‘box, but boasts custom paint and other aesthetic treatments, such as the ‘Iron Man’ short exhaust. Perhaps the best thing about the Zero bikes is that they’re ADR compliant, registered and ready to ride.
