Feature Car: Michael Sande’s Ford Mustang Fastback

18 Apr

My photo shoot of Michael Sande’s incredible, trophy-hauling Ford Mustang Fastback was featured in the April 2017 issue of Mustang Monthly in the USA, proudly flying the flag for custom Aussie-built cars. The magazine has subsequently featured the shoot on its website since and never fails to attract plenty of praise for Michael’s efforts – even if it is right-hook!

We had the pleasure of getting in to see all the wonderful hot rods, muscle cars, motorcycles and Aussie classics during the pre-show press launch at the Meguiar’s MotorEx yesterday afternoon. This included the press conference with the talented Chip Foose, who is this year’s celebrity attendee.

We stuck around for a few hours and snapped off a stack of shots for anyone unable to get there this year. So without further ado, CLICK HERE or on the thumbnails below to view 111 images from the 2013 MotorEx.

Logo Design: Woods & Woods Motor Car Co.

18 Jul

Hosking Industries recently created two new logo designs for Woods & Woods Motor Car Co., based on the Central Coast of NSW, Australia. The client requested Art Deco design styles for both logos, as their primary stock in trade is the restoration of pre-war vehicles and the creation of bespoke 1930s-style phantoms. You can see the entire gallery HERE.

With the deadline to the 2013 MotorEx fast approaching, it was a rapid process of drafting and proofing, before also designing the company’s MotorEx display materials, business cards and fliers. The business cards will feature a three-step process involving both spot UV coating and spot foil application.

If your business is in need of a new logo or you have run out of business cards, feel free to request an obligation-free quote! And be sure to check out the Woods & Woods trade stand at this year’s MotorEx, starting tomorrow, July 19, 2013. While you’re there, be sure to visit The Chop Shop and Ziggy’s Hot Rods stands and pick up one of their posters, with photography also by Hosking Industries!

Feature Car: Ziggy’s Hot Rods 1968 Ford Mustang

03 Feb

Hosking Industries had the rare pleasure of photographing the 1968 Mustang Fastback known as Warhorse 427 for Modified Mustangs & Fords magazine in the USA last year. This incredible custom vehicle was the recipient of 5000 man-hours in the bodywork alone! Built by the talented team at Ziggy’s Hot Rods in Medowie, about two hours north of Sydney, Australia, the off-white Fastback has wowed audiences since its debut at MotorEx around 18 months ago.

The car, owned by Mike Kluver, is featured in the March 2012 issue of Modified Mustangs & Fords, with the feature story also written by us. You can visit their website HERE.

We shot the car close to the Ziggy’s workshop one steamy Summer evening. Toward the end of the shoot it became so humid that the UV filter on the front of our lens started to fog up! We rattled off more images than we’ve probably ever snapped for any other car, such is the detail inherent in the Mustang and today we bring you six FREE desktop wallpaper-sized images for your own enjoyment.

Strobist fans will find lighting information on each image’s caption on our Flickr page. CLICK HERE or on the thumbnails below to view and download the shots.

MotorEx 2010 in SydneyMotorEx has long been one of the biggest and most impressive indoor car shows in Australia. Sadly though, the shine had worn off the event in recent years due in part to the influence of both the former owner and the hotrod club that controlled much of what went on and how the event was laid out. Thankfully that all changed last year when MotorActive bought the show – lock, stock and barrel.

MotorActive is owned by Bruce Morrison and distributes a number of high profile product lines in Australia; including Meguiar’s, House of Kolor automotive finishes and Liqui-Moly. For years, Meguiar’s had been naming-rights sponsors of the MotorEx. So it made sense that MotorActive should take it on. With Owen Webb – one of the country’s top elite show car judges – taking the reins of the show, it returned this year with a renewed vigour and vitality that it’d been long lacking.

Walking into the expansive dome, the quality of the vehicles – as well as the quantity – was immediately apparent. For a few years past, most of the main action took place only in the front of the venue, with the rear halls consisting pretty boring car club displays of restored and classic cars. While there was always a smattering of modified cars ‘out back’, the quality drop was like falling off a cliff as you walked out of the main dome area. Not so in 2010!

This year, the quality from the front to the back of the full-sized venue was excellent with all makes and models well represented. Whether you were into the rods, muscle cars, late-model muscle, bikes and choppers or high-tech Jap’ stuff – MotorEx had you covered with some of the best examples in the country on display.

Owen Webb did an amazing job of pulling all the cars to the event and being the show’s big anniversary, organised for all past winners of the show to come back and compete against one another again. It was truly a spectacle to behold and the punters lapped it up.
