VALE: Laurie Starling of The Chop Shop

11 Aug

We’re still trying to come to terms with the sudden, tragic and senseless death of The Chop Shop co-founder Laurie Starling on July 24. He was yet to reach his 30th birthday.

There has been an outpouring of grief, support, tributes and love for the guy everyone agrees was one of a kind and Hosking Industries has been proud and glad to show our support at this time by providing one of our portraits to several friends and family of Laurie and the team at The Chop Shop for commemorative items and designs, some of which you can see below.

Vale: Laurie Starling.

Feature Car: The Chop Shop’s FB Holden

12 Dec

Ahh we’ve been waiting to show you our photo shoot on The Chop Shop FB Holden sedan for months! We originally shot the car as a private job for the great guys at The Chop Shop shortly after the 2013 MotorEx ended so they could use the images in their advertising. However, with an impending cover spot coming out in Street Machine magazine, they asked if we could hold off publishing anything.

But now, with their Street Machine cover story now on newsstand shelves, we can show you a few examples from our shoot. The car, built for a customer, is an incredible blend of classic style and modern mumbo. There is a ton of clever engineering going on under the skin of the car and the level of finish is just nuts.

As always, we’ve got a series of FREE desktop wallpaper images for you to enjoy and strobist fans will find our lighting information and EXIF data on each image’s caption, too (although only the detail shots and one of the exteriors used off-camera flash). Simply CLICK HERE or on the thumbnails below to visit our Flickr page where all the goodies lay in wait for your visit.

We had the pleasure of working with the guys at Gosford’s The Chop Shop once again, this time photographing the team for the cover of Performance Garage magazine. The issue it was published in came out last month.

We’ve uploaded a bunch of images from the shoot onto our Flickr page for anyone who wants a closer look or a FREE wallpaper version of the shot. Lighting and image information is also available for anyone interested in that sort of thing!

Model Shoot: Jessica Pridham for The Chop Shop

21 May

The guys at The Chop Shop in Gosford on NSW’s Central Coast called on us to shoot some promotional images for their 2013 MotorEx campaign. You may recall we photographed their promo stuff for the 2012 event (SEE IT HERE). Naturally, we jumped at the chance to work with the Chop Shop guys again, if for no other reason than to see all their awesome automotive projects up close.

Melbourne’s Jessica Pridham flew up for the shoot this time around. It was also great to try some different lighting options and setups using the same location. Interested photographers can read about our lighting setups and EXIF data on the images at our Flickr page. Everyone can enjoy wallpaper-sized versions there, too. Model Shoot: Kahli Winters for The Chop Shop

20 Sep

We’ve been picking up a few more private photo shoots over the last few months, which has proven to be a nice break from the magazine work. On this occasion, the guys at The Chop Shop in Gosford, NSW approached us about shooting a local model for some promotional posters and banners in the lead up to the 2012 MotorEx car show.

We’ll admit, when we first took on the job, we thought it was to shoot the model in front of their latest work truck – a mid-century Chev’ – first seen in all its glory at this year’s MotorEx. But as you could imagine, two weeks out from MotorEx and the truck was still unfinished. So, Laurie and Aaron rolled out their next personal project to be the centre of attention: an absolutely slammed 1972 Chevrolet truck. Oh, and then of course there was the gorgeous Kahli Winters posing for our camera.

The main shot you see here is a composite of around 15 images to get the lighting how we wanted it to look, while the other shots focusing more on Kahli are single shots. All use Canon Speedlite flashes and you can find the lighting information on our Flickr page by CLICKING HERE or on the thumbnails below. We’ve also got the main shot as a desktop wallpaper image, too!
