Feature Car: Nick Blunck’s 1961 Volkswagen Beetle

12 Dec

Nick Blunck is a dedicated VW fan. He owns at least two Beetles and can be regularly seen posting images of sexy Euro sports cars via his social media channels.
He lusted after a period-specific rally-style Beetle using parts and mods you might have seen in the 1950s, using parts from companies around at the time like Oettinger. This tasty example is the result of his toil and it is featured in issue 60 of VW Magazine Australia.

This is the second time I’ve been lucky enough to get up close and personal with John Trunzo’s incredible phantom Holden FJ coupe, known as the Draggin’ Coupe. It was originally built in the 1960s and has been heavily sectioned and converted to a two-door coupe. It was featured in last month’s issue of Just Cars.

Feature Bike: Paul Bailey’s 1937 Harley Davidson Land Speed Tribute

08 Jan

Paul Bailey has built a lot of bikes, but this one is particularly special as it pays tribute to the Harley Davidson Knucklehead that set a world land speed record in 1937 that stood for 11 years at 136.183mph on Daytona Beach.
This bike uses a 1939 frame with an S&S Knuckle engine powering it. Pretty, ain’t she!? It was featured in issue 155 of Heavy Duty.

Feature Car: Leon Julien’s 1959 FC Holden Wagon

24 Jan

Issue 20 of Heavy Duty Hot Rods (aka Genuine Hot Rods) is due to hit the stands real soon and contains four Hosking Industries photo shoots and feature stories. One of those was Scott Briggs‘ immaculate 1932 Ford coupe we brought you last week and another is Leon Julien’s awesome retro FC Holden wagon pictured here.

This mild kustom 1959 wagon was built at home under a 6x3m marquee in the front yard and is powered by a supercharged 208ci Holden six-cylinder stroker motor. Leon is responsible for just about everything and he and his family drive the car to shows up and down the East Coast of NSW, Australia. Be sure to read all about the car and how it came together in issue 20 of the magazine.
