Pencil Genius: Narelle Vella Recreates Evolution’s WL Harley in Pencil

19 Aug

A little over a year ago Hosking Industries received a Facebook message from someone asking to use an image we took as the basis for an illustration. Right off the bat we dug the idea, simply because the person had taken the time to actually ask. That person was Narelle Vella and the work she created, based on one of our images of Evolution Custom Ind‘s WL Harley Davidson is outstanding.

We’ve given Narelle the go ahead to draw from any of our images that she likes, so hopefully we’ll have more examples of her great work to show you here in the future. If you’d like work done using your own bike, get in touch with Narelle HERE.

Opinion Piece: Shooting Stuff (Street Commodores Editorial Columns)

17 Aug

This is the twelfth in a regular series of editorial pieces we’ll be posting here on the blog, originally written by Hosking Industries’ Ben Hosking for Street Commodores magazine and other magazines he’s completed opinion pieces for. This column appeared in issue 178 of Street Commodores:

Shooting Stuff (Written October 25, 2010)

Adding a new feature to my professional cap, one car at a time and some tips for you guys playing at home.

So I started shooting feature cars recently. I’d been providing many of our regular shooters with detailed information and feedback on shooting cars for print for years beforehand; however I’d never gotten behind the lens myself to complete a full photoshoot for the magazine.

Sure, I’d shot more technical features and car shows, cruises and events than I care to remember and I’d been taking photos for my own artistic entertainment since I moved to Sydney in 1999. However, actually getting behind the lens to shoot cars myself proved a pretty big step for me emotionally. I was actually pretty nervous before completing my first shoot.

Opinion Piece: Clean Cruising (Street Commodores Editorial Columns)

12 Jul

This is the seventh in a regular series of editorial pieces we’ll be posting here on the blog, originally written by Hosking Industries’ Ben Hosking for Street Commodores magazine and other magazines he’s completed opinion pieces for. This column appeared in issue 173 of Street Commodores:

Clean Cruising (Written May 26, 2010)

There’s never been a better time to start thinking and acting greener and there are tons of ways to make your hobby better for the environment.

The modified car scene is a sprawling, expansive group of individuals. Car lovers live in every type of community and in every suburb in Australia. We spend millions on car care and performance products each year and travel about as many kilometres in our hopped-up dailies and weekend weapons. Surely, the impact we have on our environment is significant. However, there are many ways in which we can all lessen our impact on our world – from small things, to big.

Feature Bike: Evolution’s Custom 1973 Iron Head Sportster

07 Jan

We shot this gorgeous custom 1973 Harley Davidson Iron Head Sportster for a new client, Heavy Duty magazine. You can see the entire feature and accompanying story in issue 126, on-sale now.

Built by Evolution Custom Industries – check out their supercharged WL that we shot in 2012 HERE – the bike features a custom rigid rear end and that striking none-blacker appearance that’s highlighted by all the brass fittings and discoloured stainless exhaust (done that way on purpose, naturally).

As always, we’ve got a series of FREE desktop wallpaper images for you to enjoy and strobist fans will find our lighting information on each image’s caption, too. Simply CLICK HERE to visit our Flickr page where all the goodies lay in wait for your visit.
