Feature Car: Image Conversions' 1949 Chevrolet

LSA-Powered Classic Truck

I’ve now had the pleasure of photographing four or five of the incredible vehicles that have rolled out of the Image workshop in western Sydney. This 1949 Chevrolet truck only highlights the ever-evolving and improving skill and vision that the crew are delivering.

Powered by an LSA V8 and playing host to just about every electrical convenience you could hope for, this classic truck sits at the peak of Australian custom car building.

My photoshoot appeared in the May 2024 issue of Street Machine.

Feature Car: Glenn Smith's 1979 Ford F100

Classic trucks are huge in Australia right now. Last time I asked Graeme at Down Town Kustoms what his forward bookings looked like for the next couple of years, he said it was all trucks! Ryan over at United Speed Shop says it’s a similar story for him.
They’re coming in all sorts of styles, too. I’ve photographed some absolute show-stopping stunners over the last few years, as well as some examples with more patina for that ‘get in and drive’ feel.
Glenn Smith’s awesome 1979 Ford F100 falls into the latter category. However, that rough and ready aesthetic is only skin deep: peer under the snake-belly-low sill panels and you’ll find that this ’79 F-truck is hiding a whole lot under that old paintwork.
Down Town Kustoms computer designed and built an entirely new chassis for Glenn Smith’s 1979 blown Ford F100, as well as airbag suspension and floor pan. It’s literally more ‘new car’ than classic and is based around a 315kW Aussie Ford Miami supercharged, quad-cam V8.
My photo shoot (which coincidentally took place the same day as my shoot of Peter Sharp’s mind-blowing HQ Monaro on the cover of the same issue) appeared in the July 2021 issue of Street Machine.

Feature Car: Smith Concepts' 1965 Chevrolet C10 Fleetside

Check out Smith Concepts’ 1965 Chevrolet C10. I’ve had the pleasure of photographic the work of Kyle Smith at Smith Concepts many times over the last decade or so. In fact, I think my second ever photo shoot in 2010 was of Kyle’s white Valiant ute and his funky Yamaha rat bike (he’s progressed onto big twins since).
Since then I’ve had several custom bikes, a few hot rods and workshop shoots out at his Brookvale, NSW shop. But it’s this ’65 Chevrolet C10 Fleetside that Kyle is perhaps most proud of – at least until the next one is built.
Slammed on its arse and painted in a deep, deep DNA Cherry Black, Smith Concepts’ 1965 Chevrolet C10 is powered by a 350ci SBC and boasts a ton of incredible detail. It was also built largely by, and managed by Smith Concepts – the shop’s first big all-in project. Plus, it was completed in just 12 months! No wonder Kyle is so proud.
The shoot featured in the March 2021 issue of Street Machine.
