Feature Car: Chad Ribbons' 1965 Holden HD Ute

Chad Ribbons’ 1965 Holden HD Ute was built as a tribute to his late father. Boasting a custom ‘toilet wall’ green finish and sitting on its belly thanks to a Slam Specialties airbag system, Chad Ribbons’ 1965 Holden HD Ute is packed with ‘cool’ and garners plenty of attention wherever it goes.
The ute runs a built 202ci Holden six with a set of triple SU carbs, backed by a Trimatic and Volvo diff’ housing with 3.7:1 gears. Rolling low on the raked 17- and 19in billet rims, it looks fantastic.
My photo shoot on the car was featured in the June 2021 issue of Street Machine magazine.

Cover Car: Louis Younis Holden LJ Torana

Man, there have been so many killer Holdens coming out right now – I don’t quite remember the last Ford I shot. Oh, yeah I do! The nutso 1000hp Barra-powered XM from Image Conversions!
Louis Younis will be a familiar name to custom car fans in Australia. His latest build/refresh is this crazy ‘street’ LJ Holden Torana boasting a 377ci SBC with a 14/71 and trick EFI setup that was built by Louis’ dad Tony. Final assembly of the car was done by the crew at Pro Flo Performance and keen eyes would have seen a snap of the car in the Pro Flo workshop in my recent workshop tour pics in Street Machine.
My shoot on the Torana appeared on the front cover of the May 2021 issue of Street Machine.

Cover Car: Dean Rickard's 1969 Holden HT Monaro

Car owners often ask me the same question when I’m shooting their own cars: “What is the best car you’ve ever photographed?”
It’s a ridiculously hard question to answer definitively. The best how? Best engine bay, best paint, best stance, best trim, best race car, best ‘cool’ factor, best… you get the idea. A lot of cars have been amazing for different reasons.
perhaps that was until I got tasked with photographing the latest creation from Down Town Kustoms in Taree, NSW. Dean Rickard’s 1969 Holden HT Monaro GTS is off-the-charts in just about every regard. The bodywork still numbs my brain to this day; the interior is somehow understated, elegant and show-conquering all at the same time; the engine bay is to die for despite there being no blower or turbos in sight and the undercarriage is a work of art, even though it isn’t all glossy or chromed.
If you can find one, pick up a copy of the January 2021 issue of Street Machine to read the whole incredible story.

Feature Car: Mendo's Holden LX Torana

In storage out west for some 20 years, Mendo’s barn-find Holden LX Torana mixes modern mumbo with classic styling for the perfect street car recipe.
Powered by a 454ci LSX-based V8 and backed by a T400 and 9in, the Contessa Gold sedan sits nice and low thanks to a set of mini tubs.
The car was featured in the Street Machine 2020 Yearbook.

Feature Car: David Galea's 1970 Holden Monaro

Thanks to COVID-19 and having our first baby, 2020 has been a pretty slow year for photo shoots. However, I did get commissioned to shoot David Galea’s gorgeous and ballsy 1970 Holden Monaro for the October 2020 issue of Street Machine.
Boasting a Motown 400ci SBC, Powerglide and narrowed 9in rear end, the car is old-school, but not stuck in the past. Smooth and slammed, but not stock.

Feature Car: Daniel Shannon's Holden VL Commodore

Daniel Shannon’s Holden VL Commodore was actually his first car. Purchased at the age of 16, he grew up in a Holden family and messed around with the car throughout his young years. Around a decade ago, Daniel decided to build the car right and this is what results from his hard work: a Walkinshaw-clad, RB26/30 turbo hybrid built by Maatouks that’s capable of some 1000hp and so much more.

My photo shoot on Daniel Shannon’s Holden VL Commodore appeared in the April 2020 issue of Street Machine.

Feature Car: Brendyn Wardell's Holden VL Commodore

Brendyn Wardell has had a long history in the Aussie car scene, starting with his well-known and loved black VK Commodore known as STR8AZ back in the early ’00s. In fact, this feature on his latest blown LS-powered VL, 2NGRY2, marks his fourth Street Machine feature (appearing in the March 2020 issue). He also had cars appear in Street Commodores and others.
Brendyn’s latest car started as an original N/A Calais and today plays host to a 421ci LQ9-based LS stroker with an injected 8/71 supercharger on top. Built almost entirely in the shed with mate Billy Shine, the VL features die-straight panel work and sumptuous blood-red leather trim.

Feature Car: Alex Fenech's Holden LX Torana

I love it when I get to shoot cars that nail the ix between new-school and old-school. Alex Fenech’s Holden Torana does just that with a classy, classic black exterior with 15in Weld rims and a Weiand blower out the bonnet. But peer a little deeper and you’ll find the blower bolted to a 6L L98-based LS motor. Just magic!

Alex Fenech’s Holden Torana was featured in the February 2020 issue of Street Machine.

Feature Car: Tony Rohr's Holden VH Commodore

My photo shoot of Tony Rohr’s twin-turbo Holden VH Commodore drag car was featured in the February 2020 issue of Street Machine magazine. 77-year-old Tony built the 427ci LS-powered monster in his shed at home from a rusty hulk.

Dressed in Tony’s favourite Sting Red paint, the car boasts a big-cube LS that utilises an RHS block, supported by a pair of Garrett GTX3582R turbos and a T400 auto. There’s a Ford 9in rear out back and a cage weaves right through the car from front to back.

When was the last time you heard about a 77-year-old building – and driving – an eight-second race car!? Tony Rohr’s Holden VH Commodore is one slick beast!

Cover Car: Pro Flo Performance LJ Torana

Custom classic Holdens don’t come much more ballistic than the latest weapon to come out of the Pro Flo Performance workshop. This Pro Flo Performance LJ Torana LJ Torana coupe is literally a balls-out N/A drag car built and finished like an elite-level show car – and it boasts the largest engine I’ve ever had the pleasure of pointing a camera at.
Coming in at a whopping 940ci, this Sonny’s race engine, Pro Flo is expecting the car to run into the low-7s on pump fuel and mid-6s with nitrous assistance.
The Pro Flo Performance LJ Torana was featured on the cover of the February 2020 issue of Street Machine.
