Feature Car: Steve Bowman's 1965 Chevy II Nova Sport

I photographed Steve Bowman’s classic and gorgeous 1965 Chevy II Nova Sport Coupe for the February 2021 issue of Street Magazine. This car boasts a truly timeless combination of parts and colours that should mean Steve can simply cruise and enjoy this sweet machine for many years to come.
An original 327 car, it’s now powered by a 525hp 383ci SBC and backed by a T700 and 9in, the coupe features a smooth engine bay, Weld Draglites and a smooth , colour-coded metal dash with classic black leather trim.

Learn How to Automotive Light Paint!

Learn how to automotive light paint with one of Australia’s top exponents of the style. Ben Hosking is now offering one-on-one and small-group classes in the greater Newcastle and Sydney regions.

Learn all the necessary tips and techniques you need for creating professional-level automotive light painting images. From the equipment you need to the techniques to creating beautifully-lit scenes and the secrets that make a memorable image.

Each hands-on session will be tailored to where you and I think you need the most help. Or it can be an encompassing course that starts right at the beginning – or anywhere in between. All that will be worked out prior to the lessons, which will be a minimum of two hours, at a time and a location within your general area (where possible). I’ll also try and set the lesson after one of my proper magazine shoots. So you can come along and watch that process as part of the coaching.

I’m also offering more general educational sessions in automotive photography techniques like strobist and even basic camera skills should you feel you need it.

Contact me today HERE if you’re interested in learning how to automotive light paint and we can discuss your specific needs, questions and desired outcomes.

Feature Car: Mark Cirillo's 1974 Holden LJ Torana

Mark Cirillo’s 1974 Holden LJ Torana was living in his dreams for almost 20 years before he got the chance to actually own it. Now that it’s his, Mark has restored the LJ Torana coupe – transforming it into his perfect aussie muscle vision, including a tough 355ci Holden stroker and Ford 9in rear end.

Incredibly, Mark was able to preserve the car’s decades-old paintwork and the use of the Mawer three-piece 13in rims just adds to to the retro appeal. Step inside Mark Cirillo’s 1974 Holden LJ Torana and the vintage theme continues thanks to the largely GTR-spec’ upholstery.

The car was featured in the November issue of Street Machine magazine.

Cover Car: Fabion Corio's 1962 VW Karmann Ghia

My photo shoot on Fabion Corio’s pristine 1962 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia was featured on the front cover of the latest issue of VW Magazine Australia, which is still on sale now. Powered by a 1776cc engine with twin Kadron carbs and custom manifolds, the car sits nice and low and looked beautiful as the sun went down during our shoot on Sydney’s south-eastern shores.

Feature Car: Dave Steele's Holden HQ Monaro

My shoot on Dave Steele’s immaculate HQ LS Monaro was featured in the April 2019 issue of Street Machine. It was the first time I’d light painted a car in a studio environment and I’m pretty chuffed with the way it came out – particularly being a white car in a white room.
Powered by a stout 427ci Dart-based SBC, the car is heavy with attention to detail and sits with its smooth arse well into the weeds (which I love!).

Feature Car: James Gatt's 1964 Chevy Nova

Between an unfortunate workshop accident and life just generally getting in the way, it took two years for me to finally get James Gatt’s superb 1964 Chevrolet Nova in front of my camera and it appeared in the March 2019 issue of Street Machine. Bags, billet and a sexy multi-throttle injection setup, the car is all class.

Feature Car: Kevan McConochie's Manx Buggy

Kevan McConochie’s 2.27L stroker VW-powered Manx buggy is unlike any other you’re likely to see. Slammed, widened, caged and ballsy, the Audi grey tub isn’t about to see any beach time. This is a street buggy.
I photographed it for issue 60 of VW Magazine Australia.

Feature Car: Azgar Khan's Volkswagen Mki Golf Cabrio

My photo shoot on Azgar’s slammed and sexy Volkswagen Mk1 Golf Cabrio appeared in issue 60 of VW Magazine Australia. The car has been a largely DIY build between Azgar and his mate Manuel, whose patina Beetle I photographed for the same magazine around 12 months earlier (see it here).
With a 2L 16-valve Seat Ibeza engine swap with those funky trumpets hanging off the front, and riding low on the 15×8.25in Workmeister rims, it looks sick!

Feature Car: Nick Blunck's 1961 Volkswagen Beetle

Nick Blunck is a dedicated VW fan. He owns at least two Beetles and can be regularly seen posting images of sexy Euro sports cars via his social media channels.
He lusted after a period-specific rally-style Beetle using parts and mods you might have seen in the 1950s, using parts from companies around at the time like Oettinger. This tasty example is the result of his toil and it is featured in issue 60 of VW Magazine Australia.
