Cover Car: Tim Laidler's HSV SV88

14/71-Blown 540ci HSV SV88

Tim Laidler’s insane HSV SV88 mixes rare HSV genes with stupendous mechanical prowess to forge something truly nutty.

It boasts the same slightly-odd two-tone metallic blue paint as the original, as well as a modified OEM-style trim… but the similarities end there. Gone is the Holden V8, replaced by a monster 540ci big-block, crowned by a mechanical injected 14/71-blown setup that Tim says he can remove to use the car on the street.

The mag is still on sale now, so go grab a copy today and read all about the build!

Cover Car: Ray's VN Commodore

Supercharged LS2 KNG GRP A

2022 didn’t exactly end the way I would have liked, with nerve damage as a result of surgery to my right arm. It meant I couldn’t use a mouse, play guitar or really do anything with my right hand.

Shortly before that happened though, I got to shoot Ray Elia’s latest creation – this gorgeous ode to the mighty VN Group A SS.

Powered by a blown and injected LS2, the VN is detailed to the hilt, no matter where you look. You’d be forgiven for thinking that all this detail would preclude Ray from driving the car, but even before the Nats this January, you could find Ray driving the car all over the place!

My shoot was featured on the front cover of the December issue of Street Machine.

Front Cover: Ray Elia's VN Commodore

Ray Elia's VN Commodore

I recently had the pleasure of photographing Ray Elia’s latest creation for the front cover of Street Machine’s December 2022 issue, which is on sale now.

Keen readers will remember his white blown LS-powered VK Brock-alike that I shot for Street Machine’s Commodore title a few years back.

Best of all, this beast is already getting driven on the street despite not yet being done with show season.

Cover Car: Ricci Camilleri's LX Holden Torana

Ricci Camilleri's 8/71-Blown LX Torana

Ricci Camilleri’s Holden Torana and I go back to 2014. That’s when I first photographed his LX sedan. Although back then, the car was bright yellow and running a naturally-aspirated 355ci stroker from Pro Flo Performance.

Fast forward to 2021 and Ricci Camilleri’s Holden Torana is back and looking nothing like its former self. Featured on the front cover of the November 2021 issue of Street Machine, the Torana now wears a thick coat of Audi red and is running a 754rwhp 383ci 8/71-blown Holden V8, also built by the team at Pro Flo.

It’s also got a lot more refinement underneath, where you’ll find a Magnum IFS and a Pro Flo sheet metal 9in with 4-link. Combined with the new interior (including the sweet 3D-printed dash fascia), wheels, brakes and tyres… it’s an entirely new machine.

Enjoy the gallery of images and be sure to grab a copy of the January 2022 issue of Street Machine for my next cover shoot 🙂

Cover Car: Peter Sharp's SHQRP Holden HQ Monaro

Peter Sharp’s Holden HQ Monaro, known as SHQRP, has been in the build now for around a decade. I photographed the car in bare metal around six years ago for its owner on a trip to the team at Down Town Kustoms. The wait has been worth it.
This is no ordinary HQ Monaro. While its front end may be divisive, there’s no disputing the incredible innovation and attention to detail to be found no matter where you look. From the exterior with its coach-built steel wide body to the custom chassis, floor pan and airbag suspension… right through to its award-winning interior that uses bits from a late-model Commodore – Peter Sharp’s Holden HQ Monaro is truly one of a kind and a piece of automotive art that’s been built to drive.
There’s simply too much to list properly, suffice it to say that you can see and read all about it in the July 2021 issue of Street Machine.
